Incidence of Parasites in Kwangju Primary School Boys

Abstract

|
Of 210 samples of feces examined, 94.4% were positive for intestinal helminths. Trichocephalus was observed most frequently, in 94.4%. Six other species of helminths found were Ascaris lumbricoides (72.8%), Trichostrongyrus orientalis (47.1%), hookworm (22.8%), Oxyuris (4%), nanaworm. (5%) and tapeworm (1.4%). Double infection (40 o) and triple infection (24.7%) were found more frequently than single infection (9%).
Ascaris infection was cured in 32 out of 40 boys (80%) when treated with single dose of santonin in 36 out of 40 boys (90%) when treated with two. doses of santonin for successive two days in 30 out of 40 boys (75%) when treated with single dose of piperazin.
